ALL NEW SONG FOR PABLO NERUDA
slice the fruit
there it is you
see it
that missing piece of the Sun’s
orange-yellow smile
and now you know
where it has gone
disappeared to
were those soldiers in that truck
thought they were
soldiers waving
but they might just have been
bags
of cement
in the Heavens
the eternal war
between good and evil
but down here
where it is all about tactics
and strategy, manpower
and technology
it is more likely (and more
accurately) to be framed
as East
versus West
left
versus right
Pablo
I read the sea in your poems
which leaves me
deep in regret, bemoaning
my sea
as it ends up
getting rendered
I wish in my poems
would play less truant
but let us, for argument, say
that I sailed around this island
(some island or other
that fits the description)
searching for a cave
one that contrary to
Plato’s allegory
is principle
of enrichment
not limitation
I am being a bit coy
but I do think you
of all
poets, of all people
know what
I am talking about
still searching, still searching,
have persuaded myself
that should such a cave exist
I will
most certainly find it
or it finding me
my voice carrying
to shore
by reading my
star position, or
by echo
location
those waters turquoise
and crystal clear
