GRAVITY AND TIME IN TWO SCIENCE FICTION FILMS

It strikes me that two science fiction films present the idea of gravity bending time in ways that could not be more different. The film “Event Horizon” suggests that be collapsing space to travel instantaneously between two very distant points Nature is being interfered with, and dark forces are unleashed (and insanity created) as a result (all of which has a grimly modernist/medieval flavour). On the other hand, in the film “Interstellar” love is a force of gravity that is able to use time to reverse fate — to allow human beings to find physical, but also cosmic salvation. Same idea, consequences completely antithetical.
