KING’S SIDE
it was always easy

to beat my Dad at chess

he had a good

brain for Maths but

in other things his

mind slouched
but I could see, how quietly,

he hated defeat, wanted

to win

but did not

(ironically) do the

outlier Math, put in the

hard hours and
so it was that I came

to insist on my

first football lesson

my flaming red #mufc

shirt (though

no one called United that then)
fifteen minutes what it took

to tell him that for all

my passion I was

no Bobby Charlton
he and I

a little less ideally united

about football and our

father-son team

from that moment on
